Anders started some knitting circle for non-Loyalist mages. But...I don’t know, I don’t think that it’ll get very much done. None of us really seem to have much in common besides ‘Circles sure are a bummer.’ I went because I wanted to see who considered themselves non Loyalists.
But if you’re talking about getting the old crew back together—
I say that like there’s more than four of us, and we don’t all hang out together all the time anyway. The old crew. I guess it sounds better than radical revolutionary cell.
It might be more useful to engage the Loyalists and find out what they consider to be the advantages, and slowly draw them to more flexible perspectives.
( Considering, rather than necessarily adding it to her to do list. Beliefs were beliefs, but some part of her would like not to have the messiness of mages divided. )
A smaller group can act with more subtlety. If we can position ourselves in different projects to try and guide them in useful directions and maintain awareness of developments, we can decide the best course of action over time. There is a great deal at stake, but I'm eager not to see mage rights simply left to the side until they are convenient again, and we are no longer essential.
This is all on the assumption Nell and Kostos wish to be involved, and have not found others they'd sooner work with.
What? Of course they'd want to be involved! Who else is as cool as us? Who else will put up with them for any period of time?
[ There's a worried edge in his voice. They wouldn't ditch now that they're all important advisors, right? No, of course they wouldn't. They're his friends, they stuck with him through deeper shit than this. ]
But you're right. I'm in Research, but, uh. I haven't gotten into any projects or really made much of a name for myself. I kind of thought that keeping a low profile might be in my best interest. [ Aside from the monthly ridiculous crystal post where he gives away slippers and talks about chopping off hands, of course. ] But I can give it a shot. I guess if I want to help change politics, I have to do things besides fighting.
They would want you to be involved without doubt, Gareth.
( She is the newest arrival here, and though she isn't exactly overwhelmed by doubt and insecurity, some things gnaw at her. That unfortunate "living being" tendency, and such.
When she speaks, there is a slight smile in her voice. She is very fond of Gareth. )
You don't need to be high profile, if that makes you uncomfortable. Having an ear to the ground, being involved, those are important steps. Slowly contributing more so that they share more information with you? That will be useful. And obviously diversifying who we have where is useful, but picking projects that you feel suit your skills and interests? That is important, too, if you wish to be able to learn more, trust your instincts.
[ She can't see the pleased smile on his lips, but she can probably hear it in his voice. It's comforting, to be assured that they'll still be there. ]
I'm sure they'd want you to be involved too, Marisol. Someone needs to make sure that we have some class in this place.
Dunno about the projects though. I guess the rifts and veils are of a personal interest, since I have this damn shard stuck in my hand. But I also showed up and immediately asked everyone if anyone had tried to remove the shard by hacking off the limb it was attached to. So. They might be giving me some odd looks.
...You know, they have an opening for someone to be the archivist around here. That sounds like something that could put me in an interesting position.
Ah, but if I cannot convince you let me give you hair treatments, how am I to convince the others to be classy?
Mm. ( A little sound of consideration, and she has to do her utmost not to laugh. ) You can say it was stress that drove you to consider brutally pragmatic approaches.
( Anyway, ) An archivist would be a good position to find yourself in. Do you think you would enjoy it?
